Depending on your location in the County, Dillon County is served by Marlboro Electric Cooperative, Duke Energy, and Pee Dee Electric Cooperative. Several of our industrial sites are dual-served and all three provide reliable, affordable rates. Electricity in South Carolina and Dillon County is also very reliable. South Carolina ranks third in the nation in the amount of electricity generated by nuclear power.
Marlboro Electric Cooperative (MEC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative serving about 6,500 consumers in Marlboro and Dillon counties. MEC provides low-cost, reliable electricity to its residential, commercial and industrial members, at the lowest cost consistent with sound economy and good management. Serving Marlboro and Dillon counties for over 70 years, MEC strives to meet the needs of its members and community with programs, products, services and advanced technology to ensure system quality and future growth. In addition to providing low-cost, reliable electricity, Marlboro Electric also manages the Marlboro Development Team, Inc. (MDT). MDT is a South Carolina based real estate developer focused on single tenant build-to-suits, value-add acquisitions, and strategic investments throughout the United States. The senior management of MDT has a proven track record of 100+ years of development experience with successful delivery of over 10 million square feet across a broad spectrum of development projects including retail, industrial, commercial and office.
One of the largest electric providers in the U.S., Duke Energy is a major provider of electricity in Dillon County. The Duke Energy service territory in North Carolina and South Carolina blankets most of both states. The region boasts many business-friendly features, such as utility rates that are significantly below the U.S. national average and among some of the lowest in the nation. Pee Dee Electric Cooperative serves a smaller portion of Dillon County but is an important economic development partner. Established in 1939 to serve those areas that investor-owned utilities deemed unprofitable, Pee Dee Electric Cooperative is more than a rural electricity supplier. The cooperative provides safe, reliable electricity and other services to residencies, commercial establishments, and industries across the Pee Dee.
Locally owned by the members it serves, Pee Dee Electric Cooperative is governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the membership. Trustees are members representing districts in six counties of the Pee Dee region. Daily operations are managed by the President and Chief Executive Officer. Pee Dee Electric has more than 30,000 services in place serving residents, businesses and industries, and 2,800+ miles of line in Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Lee, and Marion counties.

Dominion Energy provides natural gas service to homes and businesses across a 22,000 square mile service territory in central, southern and western South Carolina including Dillon County. 
The City of Dillon and much of Dillon County receive water and sewer service from the City of Dillon Water & Sewer Department.
The Water Distribution Division operates and maintains the city’s water distribution system to provide customers with a reliable source of water for fire protection, residential, commercial, and industrial consumption. The division administers a back flow prevention program, leak detection and repair program, hydrant and valve maintenance program, and a system flushing program, in addition to making taps for new customers.
The Water Treatment Plant Division operates and maintains the city’s 4 well ground water system. The city has a storage capacity of 430,000 gallons in reservoirs and 625,000 gallons in elevated storage tanks (a total of 1,055,000 gallons). The division currently produces 1.4 million gallons per day. The city is in the process of building a new water treatment plant (storage capacity 1,000,000 gallons) that will have iron filtration. The division is responsible for producing potable water which meets the safe standards and criteria established by the EPA and SCDHEC. All 4 water plants are classified as “C” level water treatment plants and must be operated 7 days a week by certified “C” level or higher licensed operators.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Division is responsible for operation and maintenance of the city’s wastewater treatment plants and sewage lift stations/wastewater collection system. The plant is operated in compliance with all EPA and SCDHEC regulations to ensure that all treated effluent discharged into Little Pee Dee River and applied onto Cypress Pond Spray field meets permit limits.
The division also administers a sewer use and industrial pretreatment ordinance, and monitors all industrial waste discharged into the system. The Little Pee Dee River Treatment Plant is designed to treat and discharge 4.0 million gallons per day to the Little Pee Dee River, 1.0 million gallons per day to a 35 million holding pond located at Cypress Pond Treatment Plant. The Cypress Pond Treatment Plant is designed to treat 1.0 million gallons per day, which in turn is land applied (sprayed) on an 1100 acre spray site (Cypress Pond Spray field) only of which 637.3 acres are actually sprayed.
The Little Pee Dee River Treatment Plant currently treats approximately 2.3 million gallons per day, and the Cypress Pond Treatment Plant treats 0.5 million gallons per day. Both treatment plants are classified as “A” wastewater treatment plants, and must be operated by an “A” level licensed operator 7 days a week. The division also operates and maintains 22 sewage lift stations and Wastewater Collections System seven days a week.

Dillon School District Four is excited to announce the new Technology and Adult and Continuing Education Building. ESSER funds allowed DSD4 to provide this new facility. The current DSD4 Technology Center has been housed in the old Maple Campus for over 13 years. The main building was built in 1924
MPD Electric Cooperative is proud to recognize linemen, Trey Hodge and Greg Beckum for completing a four-year line worker certification program and Sean Stephens for completing a four-year substation technician certification program.
